WB 1008 : Neighborhood Planning Series | Atlanta City Design - HOUSING

WB 1008 Neighborhood Planning Series | Atlanta City Design: Housing

This course traces the history of land-use and zoning policy in Atlanta and how they are related to contemporary racial inequalities in the City. Bringing together historical maps, current GIS and Census data, and a review of key City policy, this course will demonstrate how decisions about zoning shape current issues the City is facing including housing affordability and racial segregation. Students of the course will gain insight into the landscape of zoning and housing policy in Atlanta, past and present, and the outcomes of these policies. Additionally, the course will provide students with important data points and familiarity with interactive maps to share findings with other stakeholders. The course culminates in several policy recommendations to remedy past and current inequalities in housing in Atlanta and suggests how the recommended policies will support equitable growth in the City.

Before the class, we recommend you download the Zoom app on your smartphone, tablet, laptop, or computer. We encourage you to join the class 10 minutes before the start time to give yourself (and technology) a little wiggle room. Participants must have a smartphone, tablet, laptop, or desktop computer in order to view the presentation and presenters.

If you will not be able to attend the class, please let us know immediately so we can admit someone from the waiting list. Per the NPU University policy, students who register for a class and do not attend or withdraw will be unable to register for classes for 60 days. After the second occurrence, you will be unable to register for classes for the remainder of 2021.
