west end: murals
In May 2018, a group of community members from West End Neighborhood Development (WEND) was awarded a grant from the Department of City Planning (DCP) for public realm improvements. The project team worked closely with DCP staff to engage the community and develop mural concepts for the neighborhood.
During a community selection process, artist C. Flux Sing was chosen to design and paint the mural on Lawton Street and the bridge facing the Atlanta BeltLine and artist Elaine Stephenson to design the mural on White Street. Adam Crawford, Owner of Cat Eye Creative, was engaged to install the White Street mural.
community survey
A survey of West End residents overwhelmingly shows support for public art in the selected locations and around the city. The surveys were conducted in Fall 2020 and received 123 responses.

WHAT WE LEARNed
Communicate often and honestly: When a project faces challenges keep all parties in the know. They will often be the source of solutions.
Partner with other art organizations: Pull in other entities that can help facilitate buy-in for the project. Collaboration makes for a more robust project.
